We’re building a FPSF (Frost Proof Shallow Foundation) for our home. This is a foundation that uses insulation around its perimeter to reduce energy consumption and retain the Earth’s natural temperature to prevent frost heave under the foundation. Most of our build site is exposed bedrock making a basement, that we don’t want anyway, an expensive and time consuming endeavor. This foundation allows for relatively shallow footings thus reducing the excavation efforts needed. (The footing depth and insulation requirements is dependent on your local “Air freezing index”) This video shows how I created the footings needed for a monolithic pour to create our foundation and also touching on our under slab plumbing.
